Linux joins the battle, following Apple and Microsoft

Linux vs Mac vs PC
While Apple and Microsoft fought for the public, spending space sums on their videos while on the move, the creators of another equally popular operating system behaved extremely quietly. And this, oddly enough, seems awesome just now.

The Linux Foundation , a nonprofit organization dedicated to Linux evangelism, as well as some financial and legal support from developers, is launching a new advertising campaign.

What is the juice of the Linux Foundation initiative? In that, following the self-made “I'm a PC” commercials that random users have made for Microsoft, the organization asks all Linux users to submit their “I'm Linux” video. But unlike Microsoft, which paid Jerry Seinfield $ 3 million for two commercials, but received the most effective free of charge, the guys from LF plan to award the winner of the competition with a free trip to Tokyo to participate in the next Linux Foundation Japan Linux Symposium.

As the organizers hope, the best videos will be shown to the general public and “will explain what Linux means to all people using this OS and, at best, will inspire people to try a new operating system for themselves”.

The Linux Foundation may not have the $ 300 or $ 486 million that Microsoft and Apple spent on their advertising war, but there is support from one of the strongest community in the world that is ready to defend and distribute its “Linux guy” who will be awarded the winner.

The winner will be shown for the first time at the annual Linux Foundation Collaboration Summit in San Francisco, the event is scheduled for April 2009. Officially, the competition does not start until January 26, but you can send your videos now .

An example of what can come out of this venture, under the cut.
