Social media turns doorwayers into journalists

Analysis of 17,713 articles on the Digg website allowed us to identify the words that are most often found in the headlines of popular news. The list included only words that were used in at least thirty headlines and at the same time received an average of more than 500 points when voting on the site. For each word the average number of votes is indicated.

Ten leaders looks like this: riaa (1320); amazing (1258); photos (1159); nano (1132); want (1118); mario (1071); his (1051); who (1042); ever (1008); vista (996).

At the second stage of the experiment, the optimizers decided to verify the results obtained. Of the most effective words, they made up a meaningless phrase (Nano-mario wants his amazing RIAA photos!) And published it on Digg . This is surprising, but the adventure worked one hundred percent: the article received 500 votes in 2 hours and 37 minutes.

Of course, this experiment looks like a joke. The more interesting it is to observe how spammers and SEOs try to use social media for their own purposes. Someone does it brazenly, publishing the same texts at once on all social media in order to quickly get a large number of incoming links. Others bring a serious scientific basis for this kind of optimization using the new term Social Media Optimization (SMO, similar to SEO).
')
In Russia, the practice of SMO takes only the first steps, because social media is not popular enough in our country, but already now some Russian optimizers use this methodology to promote on Yandex .

By the way, the author of the above article “Nano-mario wants his amazing RIAA photos” is the homegrown optimizer Max Shepherds from Sevastopol. This idea occurred to him: “There are well-known social sites: Digg.com and Reddit.com. We write the article and submit it there. We get the traffic hub and the same number of links. We are raising PR to 5 and catching the subwoofers according to the words from the article, he says in one on the optimizers forum. - The article was written 15 minutes. In the first 8 hours after the submission, 14,644 people came to the site. The total effect of the article - about 50,000 visitors, more than 100 good links, Google PR 5 and more than 100 people per day still wander through the woofers. A total of about 25 articles were written, 3 of them saw a digging top, 7 - a reddit top, on average, each article brought somewhere around 5,000 people ... Traffic from Yandex also goes. ”

Perhaps Max exaggerates the effect of placing texts in social media, but the fact of using social media as doorway, even in Russia, is obvious. On the other hand, there’s probably nothing wrong with that if spammers and doorwayers publish really interesting texts to attract traffic: “There’s no difficulty in getting to the top of Digg. People are tired of press releases. People want scandal. Give them a scandal. Let them discuss and criticize, ”says Maxim Pastukhov, like a professional journalist.
