The second alpha version of Ubuntu 9.04 has been released
The second alpha version of Ubuntu 9.04 (Jaunty Jackalope) has been released. Innovations: continued update of software versions, integrated code of the latest test snapshot of version X Server 1.6 / X.Org 7.5, Firefox 3.1-beta and Linux kernel 2.6.28-rc8, included the open source driver Nouveau. When testing, it should be borne in mind that the proprietary ATI fglrx and Nvidia drivers do not work with X Server 1.6, and there are also problems with graphics cards based on Intel i845 and i865 chips. The main directions of development: reducing download time, optimizing power consumption (for example, turning off Wifi with active Ethernet), integrating the desktop environment with web services, translating the development of all project subsystems to use the Bazaar source code management system (for all Ubuntu src packages for several weeks back branches were created in the Bazaar repository), a tool for encrypting the contents of individual user home directories, preparing an assembly for mobile devices based on the ARMv7 platform, including the default for executable files in x86_64 assembly mode PIE (Position Independent Executable).
Currently, the implementation planned page contains only three items: creating an LDAP DIT (Directory Information Tree) for managing users and groups, creating an X.Org configuration file editor, and prohibiting restarting the X server by pressing ctrl-alt-backspace.
The third alpha version will be released on January 15, the release will be released on April 23, 2009. opennet.ru
