Toshiba has shared information about the imminent entry into the market of a new series of SSD-drives, the most voluminous device of which can accommodate 512 GB of data. The 64, 128 and 256 GB hard drives are made in the 1.8-inch form factor, and the 512-gigabyte “flagship” has a size of 2.5 inches. All devices are made on the basis of the 43-nm process technology.
The peak data transfer rate of the new Toshiba SSDs is 240 MB per second in read mode and 200 MB per second in write mode. This speed was achieved by equipping devices with an MLC controller. An addition to the functionality, according to the manufacturer, is the AES encryption function, which all models of the new series are equipped with.
The company is going to present a novelty to the public at CES 2009, which will be held January 8-11 in Las Vegas. Mass production will begin in spring 2009. The cost of drives has not yet been announced. ')
