Much of the IT industry is still trying frantically to figure out how to make the first money (hint: hire people). But with those who have already perfected this skill, I want to talk about the next step - how to get rich a little second / third / fourth time.
Making money on unique content is not difficult, unless of course you are not afraid to make money in principle. You can sell your content, offer a subscription to it, you can talk about it, etc. But what is much more interesting, and easy, is to squeeze out a bit of green again from what has already earned its income.
Reforming
Different presentation of the material allows you to earn several times on the same content. This is a great way to raise profits without spending huge amounts on costs.
Money times: we publish a huge amount of our ideas on our blog (comment:
Signal vs. Noise ). We publish topics that bring traffic. We make money on traffic, as we place ads in the sidebar and footer. Not very much - a couple of thousand a month.

Money two: we put together the best posts from our blog about our software development philosophy and turned it into a PDF book called "Getting Real". We sold it for $ 19. We earned a couple hundred thousand dollars on this.
Money Three: we took a “Getting Real” PDF book and turned it into paper at
Lulu.com , which sells for $ 25 apiece. The interest is small - a couple of thousand dollars a month, but the book is now ranked 4th in sales for Lulu.
Money four: we took the content of the book “Getting Real” and created a series of conferences on this strategy. Just a couple of these a year, but in the end it turned out that on average we received about $ 50,000 for each of them.

If we summarize all of the above, then it turns out that we had about $ 100k on advertising on the blog and on the company's website (about two years), $ 350k on the PDF version of the book and about $ 65k on paper, and also something then about $ 250k for all the “Getting Real” conferences (before it was renamed “Building of Basecamp”).
