Recently, I wrote a letter to a strange man. Having called me a scary word “columnist”, the meaning of which I had to look for in Wikipedia, he asked me a question, do they not know if I use encryption tools for the pgp / gpg level for mobile platforms. Unfortunately, my knowledge in this area is quite limited. And to be more precise, it’s generally zero, despite the fact that I worked a little on encryption issues, which I wrote about in my notes about gpg4win (
one ,
two )
The essence of the question was reduced to the ability to encrypt instant messages. As far as it’s actually real, encrypt something sent via Skype, icq or jabber from a mobile phone. For Artyom, in whose name a stranger introduced himself, corporate standards dictate symbian as the phone's OS. Maybe someone from the readers or community writers knows the working version of secure instant messaging encryption for symbian? According to the available information, even
mobile Skype has no means of encrypting traffic from the phone to the first server - it sends them as is.
I am ready to assume that encryption is still too expensive for mobile devices. But I still can’t believe it - I know too many people who would hang themselves, but would collect encryption even on a mobile phone. In this case, they would not stop that it works too long for the average user. It seems to me that somewhere in the depths of the Internet there should be a solution. Perhaps some of the readers have already stumbled upon it. I beg you to share. Even if they are, if not specific thoughts, then at least assumptions on the designated topic. Perhaps it helps Artem.
For myself, I am also looking for some kind of similar solution. However, my requirements are somewhat different. Sending encrypted messages by e-mail is fine with me. At the same time, only Java is available on my phone. There is no sensible OS there and it does not smell - this is exactly the phone. I want to be able to encrypt and sign messages. The only acceptable option that comes to mind from the fly is ssl to a personal server, which has a form for entering a destination address and a text message. Maybe here, too, there are experts that organized a perversion for such a task? :)

At the end of the topic I want to raise the question. How does the possibility of physical loss of keys affect the sekurnost? Perhaps someone knows the options for storing secular information on mobile media of such important information as private keys for electronic signatures, passwords and so on. I allow them to be worn only on an encrypted disk. But this is a laptop. What about encryption on flash drives, phones and similar media?
Threat Artem is not yet a member of the Habrasoobschestva. Perhaps someone hacked habrainvayt. If there is a desire - I am ready to pass it on to Artem, since he wants to join the ranks of habravchan :)
