This afternoon, after two years of development,
the release of Amarok 2.0, a multimedia player including a system for maintaining a music collection, took place.

We thought about how best to create a program that will allow us to stay at the forefront of digital music management. We also sought to highlight Amarok in the rapidly growing market of music players. © Amarok Development Team
Completely redesigned user interface. Made the transition to Qt 4.4;
Tight integration with online services such as
Magnatune ,
Jamendo ,
MP3tunes ,
Last.fm and
Shoutcast ;
New API for connecting external scripts and plugin development;
Basing on KDE 4 technologies, activating the interlayer to interact with Solid equipment, Phonon multimedia subsystem and Plasma desktop shell;
Architecture redesign for working with external devices (connecting portable audio players, storage devices, etc.)
The podcast manager, separated from the playlist manager (improved podcast downloads);
To organize the storage, a transition was made from SQlite to MySQL-embedded;
Improving the playlist interface, including the implementation of dynamic mini-playlists;
Automatic detection of 8-bit encoding in metadata;
Supports Windows and Mac OS X platforms.
