14 more companies fit into the Open Handset Alliance - and which ones!

Open Handset Alliance The Open Handset Alliance, initiated by Google to support the development and distribution of the Android mobile OS and smartphones with it, has just announced that the alliance includes another 14 major global companies, including such familiar names as Sony Ericsson, ASUS and Garmin. Here is a complete list of newbies:

AKM Semiconductor Inc., ARM, ASUSTek Computer Inc., Atheros Communications, Borqs, Ericsson, Garmin International Inc., Huawei Technologies, Omron Software Co. Ltd, Softbank Mobile Corporation, Sony Ericsson, Teleca AB, Toshiba Corporation and Vodafone.

And even if these are not all the remaining companies in the world that occupy key positions in the iron and smartphones production market, OHA has already gotten pretty damn close to becoming the strongest cartel of software manufacturers, components and mobile operators.
In terms of consumer potential, ASUS, Sony Ericsson, Toshiba and Vodafone are the most successful "acquisitions" of the alliance.
