Can you imagine that a highlighted link to your website / blog appeared on the Google search start page? For many, this is a real dream, but how much traffic will actually lead the most popular search engine in this way? According to an
analysis published on
Compete , the link to the news about the
T-Mobile G1 , which hung for a week on the start page of the search, gave only 800,000 unique users for all time.
Compete writes that about 99 million people visited Google.com over this period - from this we can conclude that the percentage of clicks on the link was less than 1% of the total number of visitors. In truth, I was surprised by such a low figure, but as it turned out, the surprises are just beginning at this point.

')
In fact, Compete reports that the link itself resulted in only 40% of the visits that hit the G1 page. This is a fairly average indicator and, I am sure that the same Habrahabr only by a search comes a greater percentage of visitors. As a result, a direct link to the G1 announcing page was not even in the forefront of the success of the campaign - there were resources and marketing moves that resulted in a higher percentage of visitors.
Another proof that even undisguised and direct “advertising” by the global search leader is far from a panacea.
