HTC puts on design, buys One & Co

The Taiwanese giant HTC , making noises this year than any electric one, yesterday announced the purchase of an off-site industrial design bureau based in San Francisco - One & Co. This little-known company among buyers, however, is in great demand among production giants - besides HTC itself, Microsoft, Sony and Nike, K2 and many other well-known guys have cooperated with it in the past.

The price of the transaction, by prior arrangement, is not reported by any of the companies, but there is no doubt that the Taiwanese paid a round sum of money for the labor of 17 people in the staff of One & Co.

Horace Luke, HTC's CIO (Chief Innovation Officer), says: “Our company has a lot of experience in developing hardware and mobile software, but design is what makes you love or hate a certain product. . Over time, mobile phones are increasingly entering the life of every customer and now design is just as important as other aspects of development. ” Luke forgot to mention one thing: design has become important for quite some time and now occupies almost the first place in importance, sharing it with functionality. Examples can bring a great many: Motorola Razr, the entire product line of Vertu, Apple iPhone - the list goes on and on.

By acquiring One & Co, the Taiwanese giant kills several birds with a canister. First of all: this is a great design studio, which is already beginning to deal with everything that HTC has: from designing mobile phones, software, website and ending with boxes into which products are packaged. Secondly: One & Co has a very rich experience in working with companies from various industries, from software to knitwear. They create materials and test products, which means in the future HTC products will take on a fresh and updated look. Third: under the terms of the transaction, One & Co will not cease cooperation with other companies, with the exception of mobile phone manufacturers and software for them - this means that HTC has got an almost never-ending source of innovation.

In order to roughly assess the potential and abilities of One & Co, I can say that the HTC Touch Diamond and Touch Pro were designed by this very small, but very capable company.
