Nine reasons to wait a bit with Firefox upgrade

Enchanting output of the second version of Firefox , of course, could not pass unnoticed by all users of this wonderful browser. They began to download the distribution package on a massive scale even before the official release , ensuring a record load on the Mozilla servers. 24 hours after the official release, the distribution of Firefox 2.0 was downloaded more than 2 million times , which is a new record not only for previous versions of Firefox, but, perhaps, for all other browsers. At least, recently released Internet Explorer 7 showed a noticeably worse result .

However, just released Firefox 2.0 already had critics who accuse this product of “dampness”. This is quite strange, because with the release of Firefox 2.0, no one seems to be in a hurry. The program came out in due time, but we did not hear about any hurry. Nevertheless, there are some signs of "undivided". Now we can formulate at least nine reasons to postpone the Firefox upgrade . Some of them are quite subjective, and one cannot but agree with others.

1. A new graphic theme is too bulky and looks different on different platforms. This is especially noticeable compared to the clear and very handy theme of Firefox 1.5.

2. Anti-phishing technology is vulnerable (based on a list of sites), and can potentially lead to problems with privacy. Anti-phishing technology is based on the Google engine, which is already exposed in a potential threat to privacy .

3. The new “Options” dialog box is quite confusing, poorly thought out and illogical hiding important functions.

4. Already, a huge number of problems have arisen with the incompatibility of various extensions and those used in earlier versions of Firefox. In fact, this is one of the biggest problems for Firefox 2.0 developers: how to ensure migration to a new browser if users are accustomed to the old extensions.

5. A well-known problem with memory leaks persists in the new Firefox. It did not help even the widespread discussion of this unpleasant "features" of a free browser. It is said that leaks will be fixed in the third version .

6. There were messages about incorrect processing of selected CSS elements by the Firefox 2.0 browser, due to which some CSS functions become inaccessible to users. For example, some parts of the Yahoo Mail interface do not work. By the way, this is one of the most popular sites on the Internet .

7. Users report that temporary “hangs” while working in Firefox 2.0 have become more frequent.

8. Glitches found in the history of surfing . This panel does not always show the last visited sites.

9. In working with RSS feeds, the free browser took a step back and became like IE7. Compare feeds in two browsers .

To all of the above, you can add the sad fact that security experts discovered a critical vulnerability in Firefox 2.0, known since June 2006. This hole was closed by a patch in Firefox 1.5.0.5 , but in Firefox 2.0 it surfaced again.

Thus, you probably should not rush to upgrade to Firefox 2.0. It is better to wait for the release of a more stable version, in which some of the detected deficiencies will be corrected.
