On July 12, 2019, I went to the city of Obninsk in the Kaluga Region for tourist purposes, and during this trip I decided to visit the museum of the A.I. Leipunsky Institute of Physics and Energy. It is located in the southwestern part of the city, not far from the main building of the IPPE (the exact address of the museum is Migunova street, house 9).
ATTENTION! Under the cut a lot of photos! Our tour starts from the hall of the museum. Here we are met by symbolic tear-off calendars with dates that are associated with the history of the formation of nuclear energy.

In the lobby we are constantly reminded of radiation safety.

This poster is intended for radio phobes who are panicky afraid to live near nuclear power plants.

Scheme of the technological process for the disposal of liquid radioactive waste.

Statistics as of 1989. If anyone does not know, France to this day remains the country with the largest share of nuclear power plants in electricity production.

Brief information on the activities of the SSC RF - IPPE.

Now it's time to show the museum itself. To begin, I’ll tell you that in the place of present Obninsk there was a summer labor colony “Vigorous Life” for children from poor working families in the city of Moscow. And in June 1944, a correctional institution was created for juvenile delinquents aged 8 to 16 years. She worked until the spring of 1946, when the Ministry of Internal Affairs decided to create a secret Laboratory "B", which later became the Physics and Energy Institute.

This is what the territory on which the city of Obninsk is located today looked like.

The main achievement of the scientists at Laboratory B was the launch of the world's first nuclear power plant, which took place on June 26, 1954. In the photo there is a commemorative figurine donated to the engineer who included the nuclear power plant in the Mosenergo network.

The reactor capacity of the world's first nuclear power plant was only 5 (five) megawatts, but for that time it was a breakthrough. The reactor was used not only for energy, but also for scientific purposes.

The world's first nuclear power plant was shut down on April 29, 2002 for economic reasons. Excursions are currently taking place there. In the photo - a certificate of assignment of the status "Monument of Science and Technology".

Portrait of Ilyich.

German calculating machines.

A table with numerous books, newspapers and magazines about Obninsk and nuclear energy.

In 1956, the IPPE began developing a transportable nuclear power plant for remote areas of the USSR. Her equipment is located on 4 tracked platforms that can be delivered to the place of work by rail or on its own. TPP-3 was first launched in 1961, but subsequently this program was curtailed. It was intended for stationary use only.

In the 1950s, the IPPE led the creation of the first nuclear submarine. The work was carried out simultaneously along the path of development of the theory, numerical methods of calculation and experimental research of reactor physics.

The hot laboratory is designed to work with highly radioactive materials.

The model of a pulsed fast reactor.

Bust of Lenin.

The fuel rod of a nuclear reactor.

Stand dedicated to nuclear thermophysics and advances in science.

Military-patriotic part of the exposition. It is mainly dedicated to the Navy.

In the Museum of the IPPE you can see objects that have nothing to do with the history of nuclear energy. In the photo - a poster from a seminar unknown to me.

We return to the hall of the museum.

Inquisitive about small nuclear energy.

Have you ever heard of a nuclear-pumped laser? I think not.
