Google goes to second place among IT companies

First, the Internet search giant Google has overtaken the computer business legend, IBM , according to market capitalization. This is a very symbolic event. Google, founded several years ago and published on the stock exchange in total in 2004, has already bypassed the cost of the blue giant, whose history contains many wonderful pages, including the creation of a personal computer a quarter of a century ago .

At the time of this writing, Google’s stock price was $ 485.5, and the market capitalization was approaching $ 148 billion. At the expense of a sharp jump in recent days, when Google shares set a historical record , Google surpassed IBM in total capitalization. The rate of IBM securities in recent days has fluctuated near the $ 92 mark, which corresponds to a capitalization of about $ 139.6 billion.

Just a few hours ago, Google overtook telecommunications giant Cisco by market capitalization. However, unlike IBM, the rate of Cisco securities is subject to fairly strong fluctuations in recent days, so in the near future it is possible to restore the status quo.

One way or another, but at the moment (October 26, 2006; 10:52 pm Moscow Time) the three leaders of the global technology market look like this:
')
1. Microsoft ($ 281.85 billion)
2. Google ($ 147.77 billion)
3. Cisco ($ 147.08 billion)

A powerful jump in the stock price of Google began on Monday, when the papers of the search giant gained 5% in weight. The reason for this was the incredibly good financial results of Google for the III quarter. 2006 (revenues increased by 70%, and net profit almost doubled), as well as the sensational news about the purchase of the YouTube site .

In a couple of days, Google’s market capitalization increased by about $ 10 billion, which allowed it to overtake IBM and Cisco. Other technology giants have long been left behind, including Hewlett-Packard ($ 109 billion) and Intel ($ 123 billion), not to mention the Internet companies eBay ($ 45 billion), Yahoo ($ 32 billion) and Amazon ($ 14 billion).

The cost of Google now exceeds the cost of the three largest American automobile concerns DaimlerChrysler ($ 54 billion), General Motors ($ 20 billion) and Ford ($ 15 billion) combined.

For comparison, the world's most expensive company ExxonMobil has a capitalization of $ 416 billion. Other giants include General Electric ($ 367 billion) and Wal-Mart ($ 214 billion).

Sergey Brin and Larry Page with a fortune of $ 14 billion each occupy the 12th and 13th places in the list of the richest people in America. Sergey and Larry are the youngest billionaires on this list.
