Lenovo will implement theft protection, remote shutdown by one SMS

As the company said, within the next few months, a BIOS update will be released for all laptops of the Montevina family, allowing not only to remotely shut down the computer via SMS, but also to encrypt all data on the hard disk. There is no SIM card in the laptop, all manipulations are carried out using the WWAN protocol.

The technology itself is quite simple and is based on a phone paired with a laptop. By sending just one line that the owner knows and sets when buying a laptop, you can not only turn it off remotely (at least forever) to your computer, but also give a lecture to the thief (the text will appear on the screen just before shutting down) about theft, smoking, alcoholism ...

Constant Secure Remote Disable - this is the name of this technology, yet you cannot call it the first line of defense. As Stacy Cannady, Lenovo's security manager, put it: “I think this is more of a sedative pill the next morning (ed.: After the loss).” Pill with a slight taste of revenge, apparently.
