The Higher School of Economics, together with the
British Higher School of Design, has established a new award designed to encourage entrepreneurial initiatives among students. On December 12, the first
Student Startup of the Year award ceremony will take place.

Winners will be determined in four nominations:
')
1. "Student startup of the year"
2. "Business person of the year"
3. "The most effective solution"
4. "Design solution"
The organizers want to encourage beautiful and effective entrepreneurial solutions and celebrate a creative approach to building a new business.
If you are not a student, but you have your own project and you are less than 30 years old, you can also be nominated for a prize.
Among the jury members:
1. Dmitry Molchanov, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Domostroy company,
2. Leonid Feigin, creative director of Direct Design Studio,
3. Konstantin Bocharsky, a journalist and creator of the Territory of Ideas project.
as well as other successful entrepreneurs and experts.
The Prize “Student Entrepreneur of the Year” is not the first initiative of the Higher School of Economics in the field of support for innovative entrepreneurship. In 2009, for the sixth time, the
Business of Innovative Technologies (BIT) competition will be held, which gathers active entrepreneurs, venture investors and reputable experts. In addition, the
VIMBI competition is held annually, where the best innovative business ideas are awarded (its final will be held just the other day - on December 6 in St. Petersburg).
As a participant in the
BIT-Soft St. Petersburg contest, who presented
his project this year and took second place with him, I would say that such events are certainly very useful for young projects. And here the main thing is not prizes and regalia at all, but the feedback from the experts, which you receive during the participation and new acquaintances - including with potential partners and investors.
“First of all, for projects, participation in such events is a kind of public relations,” says the organizer of the competition, Professor of the State University Higher School of Economics Dmitry Repin. “They get into a certain spotlight, everyone will find out about them, everyone wants to interview them, investors resort to them with suggestions. For example, in the framework of the BIT projects are growing. You come, and you have the opportunity to participate in parties and communicate with experienced people and experts. And through this participation you grow, you gain professionalism, you understand how you better structure your business, you find people and resources. ”
As for the “Student Startup of the Year” award, the appearance of such an event is particularly relevant in the light of the recent
Runet Prize , which in the five years of its existence has evolved from a professional award into a solemn concert by domestic stars of show business, diluted by awarding gilded figurines to sponsors and partners of the event .
All details about the award can be found on the website of the Higher School of Economics .
