How to make a perfectly-formed text in a second: a macro in Word for those who write a lot

When I first started familiarizing myself with Habr, my elder comrades strictly urged me to follow double spaces and errors in the texts. In the beginning, I didn’t really attach any importance to this, but after a lot of minuses in karma, my attitude to this requirement suddenly changed. And just recently, my good friend from St. Petersburg, not that geek Yana Kharina , shared a completely wonderful macro. I hope her first person narration will be useful for you.

Many years ago, working as an editor and catching endless extra spaces and other flaws in decoration, I asked my husband to somehow save me from the routine. And he made a simple, but terribly useful thing - an editorial macro. You press the specified shortcut key, and the problem is solved automatically.

To worry about double spaces - that is perfectionism, 99% of the population does not suffer from it. But if you work with text (not only as a PR person, a journalist or an editor, but also, let's say, as a sales person who writes KP), then take care of its perfect design. This will give you an intelligent person.

This is how the text looks before processing: double spaces, hyphens instead of dashes, long dashes, confusion with quotes.



Such texts often get to the editor, their cleaning can take a lot of time. Two keystrokes Ctrl + "" (this is the combination I have) - and the text is neatly decorated.



How it works? With the help of a simple macro for Word, which people can easily install even with difficulty understanding the word "macro". You need to download the file and follow the instructions.

What macro can do:

• change double spaces to single;
• replace the hyphen with an average dash and a long dash with an average;
• replace “e” with “e”;
• replace quotes, "feet" on quotes, "Christmas trees";
• remove non-breaking spaces;
• remove space before comma, period, closing brace.

A complete list of commands can be seen in the text of the macro. The teams are related to the standards of my previous work, you can remove them separately if you like the letter “” or a long dash, and also add your own.
