Over the year, the number of “home” broadband connections in Moscow increased by 63% and reached 800 thousand by mid-2006. According to the new results of
J'son & Partners , and they are based on monitoring this market, by this period already 21 percent of Moscow families had dedicated access to the Internet from home.
Company analysts believe that in relative terms, the market slows down. Indeed, in 2005, the growth rate exceeded + 120% year on year. However, in absolute terms, the dynamics are stable and high. According to her, about 300 thousand families each year, the number of customers at the "broadband" increases. Researchers also report that Moscow accounts for more than a quarter of all new connections.
For Russia as a whole, the penetration rate of the “broad band” is only 3.5%, and outside Moscow and the region - less than 2%. In this regard, the country has room to grow - in a number of countries, such as South Korea, Israel, the Netherlands, Canada, the penetration rate of broadband Internet access technology reaches 60% of the total number of households.

Speaking about access technologies, J'son & Partners notes that in Moscow, as well as in Russia as a whole, the leadership belongs to Ethernet networks. Among the providers of this type of access there are large players (Corbin, Qwerty) with tens of thousands of subscribers, medium and small. Their collection covers 57% of broadband connections.
The share of ADSL, represented in Moscow by Stream (MTU-Intel / Comstar), accounts for 37% of connections. Through the cable TV network "Akado" (Komkor-TV) 6% of households are connected. Stream, we note, remains the leader of the Moscow broadband market. Its closest competitors, the “big three” cable providers (Akado, Corbin, Qwerty), each have 5-7% of the market, and cumulatively - about 17%. The share of medium-sized providers with 2-10 thousand subscribers each accounts for 24%, small ones - 13%.
According to the forecasts of researchers, by the end of 2006 the number of “home” broadband connections will reach 1 million in Moscow (presumably, it will be 1020 thousand). Thus, in 2006, the penetration of this type of access in the city should increase from 18% (data from the beginning of the year) to 26% of all households. And after another 3 years, “fast internet” will be in every second apartment.
The market volume in 2006 will be close to the level of $ 200 million and will be approximately $ 195 million - this corresponds to an increase of about 45% per year.
