"Soup" explains its policy

The activities of the company "Soup" caused a completely natural negative reaction of ordinary users, as can be seen from the results of a survey on this topic . There are many reasons for this negative attitude, and some of them are listed in the article “Soup from the executioner's ax” .

At the same time, PR specialists understand that most of the problems could have been avoided if the PR company had been conducted correctly. But in this sense, "Soup" acted extremely unfortunate . They followed the standard path and limited themselves to a banal press conference. Of course, this was clearly not enough.

Now the company decided to work on the bugs and published a detailed FAQ , where it tries to answer all the most important questions. Here are the key points from this “document”, which will be gradually replenished.

The essence of the deal between Six Apart and Soup is that the latter gets the right to provide various services to LiveJournal (LJ) users (search, statistics, navigation, diary design, bookmarks, mail, integration with mobile communications, photo and video hosting, payment systems, etc.), as well as advertise in LiveJournal.
')
Advertising in diaries will be placed only on a voluntary basis. Additional tools for bloggers will be created on the basis of LJ Plus services, which will be integrated into LiveJournal.

The agreement with Six Apart deals with “Cyrillic” (Cyrillic) magazines, as well as about users located in the territory of the countries of the former USSR. That is, all users who keep a journal in Russian, Belarusian, Ukrainian, Bulgarian or another Cyrillic language fall under the jurisdiction of "Soup". For simplicity, they are all called "Russian users."

Russian user magazines will not be separated from the main LJ service. The common database with all records will, as before, be stored and maintained on servers owned by Six Apart and physically located in California (USA). To speed up access, create a platform that combines a centralized database and a system of "mirrors" that allows you to deliver page templates and graphics to a user from a network point closest to him. Thus, all journals remain under US jurisdiction , and law enforcement agencies will, as before, go to a California court to obtain passwords for access. At the same time, Russian users remain under the jurisdiction of Russia and are responsible for the words spoken in their diaries in accordance with Russian legislation.

The Soup company will create its own Abuse Team in Russia, which will operate in accordance with the rules and criteria of its American counterparts.
Several ways are being considered to solve this problem: either the creation of two separately working structures, or their parallel work, or the creation of a system in which one of the parallel Abuse Teams will perform the function of a higher court.

In addition, “Soup” is planning to introduce several nice “features”:

* Removing quotas of 750 friends, restrictions on the display of more than 2,000 participants in the vote and 5,000 comments to one record;
* the introduction of an affiliate program for successful bloggers ;
* convenient reception of payments from Russian users.

Specific steps for the introduction of new services will be announced as they become technically ready and will be discussed with users online. For this purpose, in particular, the sup_ru community has been created .
