As we UX-designer caught on live bait

Looking for a replacement for a UX specialist for the web design team of our creative department, we found that finding a good candidate is not easy. In the labor market, UX designers now have about the same situation as 10 years ago with web designers: the pros are well-placed and do not consider job offers, but many people who want to get high salaries in exchange for minimum experience knowledge.

“Having gorged on” a hundred or two dubious responses and a dozen unsuccessful interviews, having failed to entice intelligent specialists who had requested too much even for the Comte de la Fère, we realized that it was time to radically change the strategy. The creative department was connected to the search. We formulated the problem, “overheated” and came up with a solution: if we are unable to assemble the base of intelligent UX-designers using pull-methods, we will use push - let them write to us, we decided. It remains to come up with details.

We looked at what UX-designers share on the forums, launched the idea and came up with a web form for our job with such a deadly interface, so that it would be fun. Each item of the questionnaire was supposed to be a pain for those who meticulously develop user interfaces. Torn off in full: closed input in the field where you need to see the text, inappropriate "twists", scattered menus on the hover, invert buttons where not needed, drag-and-drop chips instead of input fields, in a word, they did everything as it should not be. However, it turned out beautifully, because with web design we are fine, we need only a good UX.

It remains to come up with a "cherry on the cake" - that is, to find a way to launch a profile in the community. Added gamification - salary counter, which decreased the more, the longer the user filled out the questionnaire. In conjunction with the provocative slogan "How much does your UX pull?" And the social network buttons, this worked.

Without a paid promotion, placed only in a few communities, the nauxui.com page gained 8,000 unique visitors in 3 weeks. Employees of several large divisions of UX filled out questionnaires and actively shared with colleagues.

The average time on the page was one and a half minutes - approximately as much is needed to fill out the entire questionnaire. The number of resumes sent in 3 weeks is 300. By the way, one of the female attendees is our current UX designer.

The page has collected a lot of feedback , both negative - there were many who did not understand humor - and so enthusiastic. Translated into English (“What's your FUX?”), The idea has already been nominated for Webby and Awwwards web awards, and is also on the short list of the largest creative festival Cannes Lions 2019 .

Check how much your UX pulls .
