Google asks its programmers to slow down

“More functions, less products” - this slogan was proclaimed by Sergey Brin, speaking at the meeting on the announcement of the financial results of the third quarter. 2006 Co-owner of the company with irony noted that Google employees had already launched so many programs that the user first had to start a search in order to find the tool he needed. There are a lot of services, but most of them are not easily accessible.

Google is aggressively releasing a wide variety of software products that are completely unrelated to search on the Internet. This confuses many: users, investors, and even experts who can not understand in what direction Google is going to develop.

Instead of launching new products, Sergey Brin said, now we need to focus on the integration of existing programs into convenient packages and services. The first steps in this direction have already been made. Recently, a convenient Google Apps for Your Domain corporate web services suite and Google Docs & Spreadsheets office suite have been released. As we all know, different Google applications are gradually integrated with each other, for example, the GTalk IM pager and the Writely text editor are built into the Gmail mail system.

Or another example. Google has several programs for publishing and sharing files: one for photos, another for videos, and a third for blogs. Much more logical, said Sergey Brin, if all this functionality will be implemented in a single service.

The same situation with the "heterogeneity" of information search of different types. Search for news, images, blogs and other sources of information has a different interface. Developers are trying to integrate all this in a single interface. For example, among web search results, search fragments are shown for news and images. In a future-oriented experimental interface , Google continues this integration.
