In Germany, impose a tax on Internet devices

Representatives of all 16 federal states of the German federation agreed on the introduction of a “tax” yesterday. This license fee is a variation of the standard fee paid by TV and radio owners in Germany. The money raised goes to support free TV channels and radio stations in the country.

German households and companies that owned television and radio receivers used to pay 17 euros per month. According to the new rules, now the fee will also be paid by those users who do not have TVs and radio receivers, but have access to the Internet. This is quite logical, because with the spread of broadband access, more and more German citizens can watch TV and listen to radio online. Probably, such advanced personalities have already appeared, who don’t have a TV, because they have enough computer monitor.

Paying a new fee should only owners of computers with Internet access and owners of mobile phones with the function of downloading and viewing video content. If you have a game console of an old model and a mobile phone with a monochrome display, then you are not obliged to finance federal TV channels.

German licensing fees on TV and radio are among the largest in Europe. Only residents of Switzerland and the Scandinavian countries pay more than the Germans. In Germany, the state finances four federal TV channels, several regional TV channels, and all public radio stations without exception.
