Replenishment of the Cascade Lake Family: Following the
second-generation Intel Xeon Scalable, the new Xeon W series models are introduced. Let me remind you that the processors with the W index are designed for high-performance workstations - in particular, specifically these new products will be part of the
newly-announced Apple Mac Pro , although they are suitable for any other computer - even on the wall.

A total of 9 models are represented in the family, all of them are almost identical in functionality and differ only in the number of cores and frequencies. Some models have an additional index M - it means the presence of a more advanced memory controller that supports up to 2 TB of RAM. All others are limited to “only” one terabyte. With younger models, the memory is DDR4-2666, while the older ones can work with DDR4-2933. As for the socket, it is the same as Scalable - LGA 3647.
Among the functional innovations I would like to mention the Intel Deep Learning Boost - an additional set of instructions AVX-512, which speeds up the processes of machine learning and Deep Learning due to the vector operations of the scalar product of 8-bit and 16-bit values with 32-bit summation.

Numerical performance characteristics are given in the table. Note that, compared with the previous generation, the choice of models with more than 20 cores has increased - previously there was only one instance at all, now 4. Thanks to improvements in the process, TDP was reduced: previously for 28 cores it was 255 W, now - 205 W. So within 14 nm there is still something to do.
It seems that with such characteristics the new Xeon W will suit the most fastidious user. On sale they will appear in the near future.
