Apple spends more money on advertising than Microsoft
After the appearance of this video from the Mac vs PC series, many wondered if it seemed to be a trivial question: how truthful is the statement that Microsoft spends much more money on advertising Vista, rather than fixing its problems, and how these numbers compare with similar expenses Apple? The answer, as is often the case, was found fairly quickly and it can somewhat dampen the ardor of devoted makovods.
Lindsay Blakely, a former reporter for the American edition of Business 2.0, and now a Bnet journalist, stumbled upon the real numbers of Apple's advertising budget somewhere in the bins of a financial report.
')
So, for the 2008 fiscal year, which ended with the Yabloko past September, $ 486,000,000 was spent only on advertising. In 2007: $ 467,000,000; in 2006: $ 338,000,000. For those who are in the eyes of zeroes, I repeat: half a billion dollars for the Mac advertising company in 2008. No wonder Apple products are so good.
For those interested, let me remind you: Microsoft’s spending on advertising all its products is at $ 1.2 billion in 2008. Of these, $ 300 million spent on advertising OS Vista and it is this amount ridiculed in the video. The cost of improving / changing the product, of course, is not published.
Upd: For those who did not understand the numbers, the words of the author from Apple:
