Dodgeball.com, acquired by
Google back in May 2005, only recently received a full-fledged “registration” among Google services: the Google Accounts system was integrated into it, i.e. now, the authorization uses a common login and password for the entire system (the same as on
Gmail ).
Dodgeball is aimed at users in the United States: it allows you to inform your friends about what bar or restaurant you are in right now, so that these friends will join your meal. Notification by SMS. According to statistics, most users of the service live in New York.
For more than a year, the service remained unchanged: from the moment of purchase, the only thing Google did was to purchase a 5-digit number for sending sms for Dodgeball. This situation is to some extent characteristic of many acquisitions of a company. It is enough to recall Writely.com, which remained the same for a considerable time as it was before the sale, and only switched to Google Accounts a couple of months ago, and then was included in the
Google Docs service.

By the way, a little earlier this week, Google began testing contextual advertising in
Google Mobile search results. Apparently, the company decided to use mobile services more actively, and Dodgeball will be the first project focused on the use of private individuals and obtaining from this the corresponding profits.
