Recalculation of habrasil and rating
Hey.
This morning we recalculated the habrasila values of all registered users of Habr. I will not give the calculation and recalculation formula itself, I will only say why it was done, what it affects and what needs to be done to get to the top of the rating.
Recalculation was started in order to bring the rating to the current and more or less fair state. This means that now those who publish good, interesting, profile articles and get the benefits of karma for them appear at the top of the rating. Until now, it was possible to get into the rating simply by writing one or two topics “on the topic of the day” (on any topic) or poyomoriv: the author immediately took off habrasil (after all, the more strongly they voted for the topic of the author, the more his habrasil became he ranked higher by rating) and he appeared in the top. Say, skopipastil funny picture from someone LJ, got 300 pluses - and you're in the top ten. Now this way to get to the top will be much more difficult.

Now, when calculating the rating, not only habrasil, but also karma is taken into account. However, this does not mean that you can go only on it alone. To get to the first places of the rating, you need to regularly (this is the keyword) to publish profile (this is also the keyword) posts. For posts in non-core blogs habrasila author can not increase. Moreover, if the author does not post anything for a long time, his habrasil will gradually approach the value of karma. The very same habrasila calculated on the basis of votes for topics and comments of the author. And given the complexity of the publication: for example, a podcast that received 100 votes will add to its author more habrasila than a link that has scored the same hundred.
Thus, in the ranking now there are those who are valued by the whole community: regularly publishes good profile articles and has a high value of karma. Consequently, those who scored more karma and just sit, doing nothing, will eventually be forced out by more active users. So all is fair.
