Microsoft launches large-scale educational initiative in Russian universities

Within the framework of the St. Petersburg Economic Forum, Microsoft in Russia announced an expansion of cooperation with leading Russian universities. The company will open a number of master programs in current technological areas: artificial intelligence, machine learning, big data, business analytics and the Internet of things. This will be the first element of the set of educational initiatives that Microsoft plans to implement in Russia.

Within the framework of the forum, Microsoft signed the Agreement of Intent with one of the program participants - the Higher School of Economics.

“We made a decision to focus the new master program on a very important topic for the economy - the training of managers who, using the most modern world developments in the field of artificial intelligence, will provide a fundamentally new way of developing education and science in Russia. Since September 2019, joint master’s programs with Microsoft will also be opened at the Moscow Aviation Institute (MAI), Peoples' Friendship University of Russia (RUDN), Moscow City Pedagogical University (MGPU), Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO), and Northeastern Federal University . A unique educational program was developed for each educational institution by Microsoft specialists together with university professors and methodologists. So, in MAI, the focus will be on augmented reality technology and AI, in RUDN will focus on digital twin technologies, cognitive services, such as computer vision and speech recognition for robots. In MGPU, several disciplines are launched at once, including “Neural network technologies in business” based on Microsoft Cognitive Services, “Development of Internet applications” on Microsoft Azure Web Apps, etc. The Higher School of Economics and the Yakutsk NEFU have chosen the priority direction of training a new generation of teachers areas of cloud computing and artificial intelligence. In MGIMO, where a master's program “ Artificial Intelligence ” was launched a year ago with the support of the ADV Group and Microsoft, a new course, Microsoft Artificial Intelligence Technologies, is launched. In addition to in-depth study of AI technologies, such as, in particular, machine learning, deep learning, cognitive services, chat bots and voice assistants, the program includes disciplines on digital business transformation, cloud services, blockchain, IoT, augmented and virtual reality, as well as quantum computing.

Students of all master's programs will have the opportunity to do practical work in the Microsoft hackathon format, which involves the creation of projects in real time with the support and mentoring of technology experts of the company. These projects will subsequently be able to qualify for the status of final qualifying papers.
