The Russian company
“Soup” officially announced the signing of an agreement with the American company
Six Apart on the promotion of its
Livejournal service (LiveJournal, LiveJournal) among Russian-speaking users. “Now, by default, all users leading Russian-language diaries, regardless of their location, will be served by the Soup company,” said Six Apart CEO Barak Berkovets in an interview with Habrahabru. - She will also receive payments from owners of paid accounts. Of course, the user will be entitled to return to the service in the Six Part. Although “Soup” provides many benefits: improved technical support in Russian and additional services that until now were only available from the United States (such as, for example, creating records using a mobile phone). ”
“Soup” is a new player in the Russian Internet market. Its investor is the owner of the operator
"Corbina Telecom" Alexander Mamut, who gained fame in the late 90s thanks to rumors about his relationship with the family of then-President Boris Yeltsin. The company was headed by American Andrew Paulson, who worked for a long time in Russia as a publisher of
the Afisha magazine .
Anton Nosik , who headed the blog service, became another famous person in the “Soup”. According to the latter, the need to create a separate structure for working with Russian users of Livejournal has long been overdue. “Livejournal cannot even show information about people who have brought a user as a friend if their number exceeds 4 thousand,” Mr. Nosik is indignant. - In the US, it is simply not necessary for anyone - there are no such popular users there. Whereas in Russia such information is the other way around. ”
Currently, there are already quite a few additional services on the Russian Internet for LJ users, but all of them have been provided by third-party services. In "Soup" stated their desire to acquire this kind of service. In particular, an agreement was reached on the acquisition of the
LJ-Plus service . But their own censorship service (Abuse Team) in the "Soup" is not going to acquire yet: American censors will continue to monitor compliance with the rules of use. “But in cases where the Abuse Team does not understand Russian, we will provide support,” Mr. Nosik promised.

Despite the lack of any special advancement so far, Livejournal managed to gain phenomenal popularity among Russian users. Today, 340 thousand people are writing from LiveJournal to Russia; Livejournal is more popular only in the USA. The success of LiveJournal has led to the emergence of a number of Russian Internet diary services -
Liveinternet ,
“Blog Diaries” ,
lj.russia.org , etc. It is possible that precisely because of the increasing competition from this kind of services, Six Apart decided to promote Livejournal through the company "Soup". “It’s still hard to judge the prospects of this project,” said
Roman Leibov, one of the first Russian users of Livejournal. - If, for example, they will offer the placement of contextual advertising in Russian in the diaries of users, it will be a very good idea. But from the materials of the “Soup” site it is not clear what exactly we will be offered and what will be demanded of us. ”
