Volunteers should have endurance, strength, speed, agility, flexibility, special physical fitness - resistance to the effects of adverse factors of space flight (congestion, weightlessness, hypoxia, vestibular stimuli) and airborne physical fitness.



Applications and documents (copies of originals) from applicants for selection are accepted from June 3, 2019 to June 1, 2020.

The decisions of the IAC on the selected applicants are published on the websites of the State Corporation "Roskosmos" and the FGBU "Research Institute of Central Testing Industry named after Yu.A. Gagarin ", as well as personally communicated to all selected candidates for cosmonauts.



Requirements for applicants for participation in the competition for the selection of candidates for astronauts

1. General requirements.

A candidate for a cosmonaut candidate in the Russian Federation may be a citizen of the Russian Federation.

The age of applicants should not exceed 35 years.

The following persons are not allowed to the competitive selection of candidates for cosmonauts:


2. Requirements for education, professional qualifications and work experience of applicants.

Applicants must have a higher education in the program of specialty or magistracy and a specialty from the list of the following integrated groups:

- computer science and computing;
- electronics, radio engineering and communication systems;
- photonics, instrument making, optical and biotechnical systems and technologies;
- electricity and heat;
- nuclear energy and technology;
- mechanical engineering;
- Physical and technical sciences and technology;
- aviation and rocket and space technology;
- air navigation and operation of aviation and rocket and space technology;
- nanotechnologies and nanomaterials;
- mathematics and mechanics;
- physics and astronomy;
- chemistry;
- biological sciences.

Persons with higher education should have experience in the received specialty for at least 3 years after graduating from the relevant higher education institution.

Applicants who have a higher education in the field of medical sciences (therapeutic and preventive care) with at least 3 years experience in the field of aerospace, underwater, military medicine or disaster medicine are also admitted to the selection.

Flight contenders should have higher flight education and flight work experience (service) in military units, organizations, institutions engaged in the operation, use, and testing of aviation or space technology for at least 3 years after receiving a document on higher flight education.

Priority in the selection are those with experience in the aviation or rocket and space industry of Russia.

Documents on the received higher education should be of the state sample, and the higher educational institutions that issued them should have state accreditation.
Applicants who have documents of foreign countries on education must submit documents on the nostrification of relevant diplomas.

The list of personal documents submitted by applicants to the competition commission at various stages of selection is given in Appendix No. 1 to this Regulation .

3. Medical requirements.

Medical requirements that determine the degree of fitness of candidates for cosmonauts are set out in the Regulations on Medical Examination and Monitoring of the Health of Candidates in Cosmonauts, Cosmonauts and Cosmonauts Instructors, approved by order of the Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation and the Minister of Health of the Russian Federation of January 9, 2001 No. 14 / 7, and in Appendix No. 2 to this Regulation .

4. Psychological requirements.

When selecting applicants for compliance with psychological requirements, the level of development of professionally important psychological qualities necessary for a successful cosmonaut's professional activity is studied and assessed.
In the process of psychological examination are analyzed:


Psychological qualities of applicants are assessed according to the results of special psychological studies, relevant interviews with applicants, studying documents describing their livelihoods, studying observation data by expert psychologists for applicants as they pass through other types of selection.

The reason for the rejection of candidates for selection is the presence of adverse individual psychological characteristics.

5. Requirements for physical fitness.

The composition of professionally important physical qualities, assessed in the selection of applicants for compliance with the requirements for physical fitness, includes: endurance, strength, speed, agility, flexibility, special physical fitness - resistance to adverse effects of space flight (overload, weightlessness, hypoxia, vestibular stimuli ) and on-board physical fitness - the ability to effectively use in flight on-board simulators for physical training in order to prevent ki adverse effects of prolonged stay in weightlessness (hypokinesia, hypodynamia, microgravity).

These qualities are assessed on the basis of the results of the performance of the standard exercise by the applicants.

The actual level of physical fitness of applicants is estimated based on the levels of these physical qualities.

The final conclusion on the physical fitness of applicants is based on the ratio of actual and required levels of preparedness.

Regulatory exercises for applicants are presented in Appendix No. 3 to this Regulation .

6. Requirements for professional fitness.

Applicants must comply with the following requirements, which are necessary for the subsequent preparation for space flight:

Regulatory exercises and tentative results of their implementation in the selection of candidates for astronauts on physical fitness:

  1. Running 1 km - 3 min. 30 s or cross-country skiing 5 km - 24 min. 30 s.
  2. Swimming 800 m freestyle - 20 min. 10 with or breaststroke - 22 min.30 s.
  3. Pulling on the bar - 12 times.
  4. Angle in the bars on the bars - 20 s.
  5. Shuttle run 10x10 m - 26.3 s.
  6. Long jump from the spot - 2.30 m.
  7. Jumping on a trampoline with a turn of 90, 180 and 360 degrees (jump height not less than 60 cm) - the technique of performing jumps on a 10-point scale is estimated.
  8. Jump - the drop into the water with the head down from a 3-meter-high springboard - the technique for performing the jump on a 10-point scale is estimated.
  9. Tilt forward - downward from a standing position on a bench (the distance reached by the tips of the fingers below the upper edge of the bench) is estimated - 16 cm.
  10. Romberg's test (the test stands with his eyes closed on one leg, arms spread out under 45º are stretched forward and slightly up, the total time of balance is recorded in three attempts) - 45s.
  11. Diving in length - 20 m.
  12. 11-minute test (running and walking on a given cyclogram) on a simulator on-board treadmill (the distance covered is estimated) - 1050 m.
  13. Manual bicycle ergometry on a simulator of an onboard exercise bike (estimated time to complete the exercise) - 3 minutes.
