A hacker from Serov convicted of extortion

The company "Bitrix" , which develops software and creates integrated systems for managing Internet projects, told the law enforcement authorities about a person trying to extort money from her.

According to ITAR-TASS Ural , the attacker was a 23-year-old Serov resident Igor Ushakov, who illegally gained access to the company's internal archives, finding vulnerabilities in the demo version of one of the programs. The hacker broke into the administrative panel of the site and copied the archive with the commercial version of the program, after which he wrote to the management of Bitrix a letter demanding $ 3,000 and further payment of $ 1,000 per month. In case of refusal, Ushakov threatened to put the stolen archive into open access.

In order to delay the period of negotiations with the hacker, employees of the company transferred $ 100 to his electronic account. The hacker failed to make a larger sum.

After the investigation and detention by the “K” department, a court was held, which found Ushakov guilty. Convicted under two articles - “Illegal access to computer information” (Article 272 of the Criminal Code) and “Extortion” (Article 163 of the Criminal Code), the offender was sentenced to a year in prison with a sentence being served in a penal colony. In addition, he will have to pay a fine in the amount of 10 thousand rubles.

“It seems to many that the Internet is an environment of complete anonymity, and this is what gives them a sense of impunity,” says Sergey Ryzhikov, director of Bitrix. “But for specialists everything matters, and every step leaves traces.” And not least, all companies, including Western ones, are ready to assist in the search for criminals. ” He paid tribute to the "K" department, which promptly worked out all the incoming materials and versions.
