Australia - the country of road trains ( Road Trains ). In the Australian outback, where for hundreds of kilometers around you will meet only a couple or two cattle farms, or “stations,” as they call them, autotrains are a vital necessity. After all, in order to deliver their goods to their destination by train, the owner, for example, of a sheep-breeding station, would have to travel hundreds of kilometers to the nearest railway with his live load.

Road trains - powerful tractors, which stretches two, three (and sometimes more) huge trailers, are able to cross the Green Continent in a matter of days, connecting the states and territories of the country.

In most European countries, the average length of road trains is 18.5 m, and only recently in Sweden and Finland it was decided to allow operation with a maximum length of 25.25 m. In Australia, a double road train weighing 80 tons reaches about 35 meters in length, and a triple is 115 t, and its length - 53–56 m! In the District of Northern Territory, you can find auto-dumping of seven trailers, which carry up to 190 tons of cargo. But the lucky ones can see even longer record-breaker trains in Australia. In 1999, the town of Merridin (Western Australia) hit the Guinness Book of Records. The company Marleys Transport was the longest road train in the world: the driver Greg Marley pulled 45 trailers with a total length of 610 m as much as 8 km. In 2000, Kalgoorlie (Western Australia) set a new record. Five thousand spectators watched with delight as the train of 78 trailers overcame a distance of 8 km. This record lasted until 2003: not far from Mangindi (New South Wales), the autotrail of 87 trailers with a length of 1235 m "debuted". The new record of the state, famous for the longest autotrains in the world, did not take long to wait, and it happened again in Kalgoorlie . The length of the road train this time was 1442 m. And finally, quite recently, in 2006, a new world record was set in Clifton (Queensland): 104 trailers with a total length of 1474.3 m!
