Alexander Militsky told how providers sell subscribers

The author of the Independent Review of Providers, Alexander Militsky, published his new research “Live merchants” , which tells about the market for the sale of subscribers by providers.

According to Alexander Militsky, the purchase and sale of the subscriber base is a new market, which previously practically did not exist. He appeared quite recently and had not yet managed to form normally.

The sale of live goods was born in Moscow, and the first buyers and sellers were Moscow providers of broadband Internet access, although isolated cases of such transactions occurred before.

One of the first deals in Russia for the sale of the subscriber base was the purchase by the provider Zenon N.S.P. of the client base of 4Unet. It was in the days of dial-up.

The booming flourishing of the live-goods trade came with the spread of broadband Internet access. First, large providers began to buy subscribers of home networks, and then really serious investments poured into the market.

“Pulling up fiber optics to the house, razvarit it, put the boxes, fill them with equipment,” in general, to connect the house, depending on the layout of the building, the hardware used and other circumstances, will cost the provider $ 800- $ 2000, ”Militsky writes. - And if all the users living in the house are already taken away by two or three providers working there (as well as the omnipresent Stream), it is possible to recoup these costs from a subscriber from a pair of defectors for many years. And it is possible to poach with means available in practice even longer. ” That is, the purchase of the subscriber base is the only real opportunity to turn around in the already established market.

Alexander Militsky published only the first of two parts of his review. In the final part, the author is going to explain in more detail the economic principles on which this market is based: “The second part will analyze the prices for the subscriber base - how they are formed and what they depend on, will grow over time or, conversely, decrease, etc. , and also mentioned the main buyers in this market. The most important, of course, is the price.
