The suite of office software from Google is called
Google Docs & Spreadsheets . As usual, the system is released in beta. Although, in the case of Google, the term "beta version" almost corresponds to the term "official release".
Actually, Google Docs & Spreadsheets is nothing new. These are the same programs that were known before, namely Writely text editor (analogue of MS Word) and Spreadsheets spreadsheet (analogue of MS Excel). Now they are released as part of a single set of programs (similar to MS Office).
We are not talking about some kind of tight integration of a text editor and spreadsheets. Combining programs in a single package has more marketing value. This is another psychological blow to Microsoft. It must be said that the online office has a number of advantages over its “offline” competitor: free of charge, collaboration (chat is built right into the software interface), access from any computer, guaranteed security of documents, continuous automatic saving, etc.
Online office is available for anyone who has a Google sign-up. After authorization, the user enters the page with his office documents (a kind of “Desktop”). At first it is completely empty, but there are two magic buttons on the page: “Move My Documents” for fast transfer of documents from old Writely accounts and “Upload” for uploading documents from a personal computer to the site. Naturally, there are buttons for creating new documents: both text and spreadsheets. Thus, the "desktop" is quickly filled with content.

The functionality of the text editor and spreadsheets in the online version is still far from the usual programs, but it is constantly expanding. For example, the maximum number of cells in one spreadsheet has already been increased to 50 thousand, and the maximum number of rows to 10 thousand.
An online office is one of several personal services on Google, the number of which is continuously increasing. Here is a
postal service ,
organizer ,
photo album ,
news reader and
much more . It collected almost everything that is required in everyday work for the average user.
