Pensioners are being introduced into social networks

An interesting study of the age of the audience of popular social sites was conducted by comScore. At the same time a number of quite unexpected facts came to light.

It turned out that the very similar social networks MySpace , Facebook , Friendster and Xanga have completely different age groups .

The most senior are users of MySpace and Friendster. Men and women over 25 make up here 68% and 71% of the audience, respectively. For comparison, every fifth visitor to the Xanga site has not yet turned 18 years old. In this social network, the proportion of children is twice as high as usual.

Facebook also occupies its niche, which initially positioned itself as a service for students and schoolchildren.

It is interesting to compare the audience of each social site with the average demographic picture on the American Internet. Then you can get an idea of what age people are more likely to register with such services. As might be expected, first of all these are users aged 18-24. But experts say that the audience of social networks is rapidly aging. This is particularly evident in the example of MySpace.

On MySpace a significant event recently occurred. The number of users aged 35 years and older exceeded the number of young users. In this way. the average age of users has definitely exceeded 35 years. People between 35 and 54 make up 40.6% of MySpace's total audience. It is even higher than the average for the Internet.

Aging users happened very quickly. Back in August 2005, users from 35 to 54 years old were 32.4%, and now they are already 40.6%. The number of elderly people aged 55 and over increased from 7.1% to 11%. At the same time, the proportion of young users aged 12–17 years has halved from 24.7% to 11.9%.
