Well, firstly, the “tick” and “cross” do not carry a semantic load, more precisely they are carried, but not at all. “Plus” and “minus” (as I perceive it) will be much more appropriate here. In the browser (Firefox) without images, this bar generally becomes not usable. No problem to choose the wrong sign. Can Alt'y (or what is there on html standards?) To change the images?

In general, it would be more convenient if it were “plus” and “minus”. This time.
Secondly, a total score would be placed between "+" and "-" (as at forum.sources.ru), or its position would be determined by its sign. In other words, a positive rating is next to "+", a negative one is next to "-"
