Mozilla stops supporting Firefox 2

The Mozilla Foundation officially announced the complete termination of support for the Firefox 2.0.0.x browser in mid-December, despite the presence of several serious vulnerabilities in the latest version of this browser. According to the plans , the support of the previous version stops exactly six months after the release of the next one. Now developers will concentrate on finalizing the main version 3.0.0.x, which was released in mid-May.

Termination of support also applies to the Gecko 1.8 engine, which, in addition to Firefox 2, also runs the Thunderbird 2 email client and some third-party browsers such as SeaMonkey, Camino (for Mac), Galeon (for Linux) and other projects . However, support for Thunderbird 2 will continue in the official ginseng cycle of the product, despite the "freezing" of the kernel.

For reference: more than 8% of the Habrahabr audience use the Firefox 2.0.0.x family of browsers. In the near future, they must make an upgrade, because even security updates for Firefox 2.0.0.x will not be released. The latest release will be Firefox 2.0.0.19 in the near future.
