SMS notifications with your own hands
There are a lot of tasks for which it would be very useful to make an SMS notification: starting from the home automation system, ending with the opportunity to inform the forum users about the arrival of a new personal message.
The task as such is solved relatively easily - there are a lot of gateways on the Internet, which for 1.5 - 5 rubles (per message) are taken to deliver your message. At the same time, the gateway will have a convenient HTTP or HTTP / XML interface, while the gateways from the middle and high price range have a high %% message delivery (the cheapest part of messages can be lost) and can even return delivery reports.
But in all this pleasure there is only one drawback - the price.
The other day in the metro, I found an advertisement for the SMS chaos service of the mobile operator Beeline, where they were promised fantastic prices for sending SMS.
In fact, there is nothing fantastic in the prices - the monthly fee is as much as 600 rubles (more precisely, 598.50 rubles) for the post-paid payment system, but for this money we are given the opportunity to send 3000 SMS / month. And, if you believe the site, without any restrictions on the direction of dispatch (i.e., you can even send SMS to other countries).

And now let's calculate - if we send all 3000 SMS in a month, then the price of one message will be 20 kopecks (!!!). At the same time, the probability of delivery of the SMS itself will be at the highest level (like, in fact, among all the Big Three operators).
For that kind of money, you can already really launch SMS-notification for your forum or site (to all interested users).
If you decide the organizational issue, then everything is simple:
1. We buy a GSM modem (2 TR +) or an ordinary cellular phone with a USB interface and the ability to send SMS through it (the cheapest of those found on Yandex is Siemens A75: GSM 900/1800/1900, USB and even GPRS to boot for 1430 rubles).
2. Select any (from the mass of available) software SMS gateway (the gateway receives HTTP requests and sends them through a mobile phone connected to the computer)
3. We find a server that is constantly connected to the Internet, we hook our modem to it, we install an SMS gateway
4. We add a small plugin (or we take it ready. I'm not exactly sure, but it seems to me that for the most common forums such plugins should exist) to our forum / site and send SMS notifications.
The main thing is not to go beyond the limit of 3000 SMS, otherwise the price of each next SMS will increase to 1.95 rubles / pcs.
Ps I do not know if there is such an interesting offer from other operators, but in the metro such advertising now hangs only from the biline.
