Created the Venice Project system - an analogue of Skype for Internet TV

New startup called Venice Project . Janus Friis, one of the founders of Skype, says : “Like the Skype, the Venice Project is simple - you download the program and immediately get free Internet TV. The quality is almost television. The program requires access to the network at a speed of at least 1 megabit / s . "

The service is completely free share of the user, and he will remain so. Profit to support the service will come from the display of advertising, and in this sense, the Venice Project will remind the classic business model of on-air television. The only difference is that Internet TV allows for precise targeting of the audience.

The Venice Project will share advertising revenues with content providers, that is, with the creators of TV shows. Unlike the very first startup that was founded by Zennstrom and Friis (it was the Kazaa P2P file-sharing network), they now respect the copyright and promise that there will be no problems with this. Video streams are not saved on the user's computer as solid video files.

The Venice Project is based on the same peer-to-peer technology of the Joltid Global Index as Skype and Kazaa. The difference is that now they have developed a add-in to the Global Index, designed specifically for broadcast video.

The main advantage of the Venice Project for the user is precisely the simplicity of the client software, which is “sharpened” for one simple task: turning the PC screen into a standard TV (with the stop, pause, and fast-rewind buttons).

Startup Venice Project has just started beta testing its program. The number of testers is about 100 people. A large-scale expansion of the beta testing program will take place in mid-November, and this will already be a real test of strength for the entire system.

Public beta testing will begin at the end of the year. Then everyone can download the program. Developers by that time will come up with a new, bright name for the Venice Project. They hope that their new project will be able to roll out without any advertising, as Skype did.
