Google launches new search engine?

According to whois, searchmash.com is owned by Google . Search rendering is not much different than Google search.
The search engine has a number of attractive innovations:
the ability to enter text in the search bar without placing the cursor in the string;
the ability to sort the results by dragging them up or down;
scrolling results, clicking on the link more web pages.
Why does Google need another search engine?
