The most important thing to highlight is the fall in prices for RAM and SSD, the launch of 5G in the US and South Korea, as well as the quick test of the fifth generation networks in the Russian Federation, hacking of the Tesla protection system, Falcon Heavy as a lunar vehicle and the emergence of the Russian Elbrus access

5G in Russia and the world

The networks of the fifth generation gradually begin to appear in different countries, moving from the preparation stage to the stage of full-fledged work. It happened in South Korea , where 5G was launched nationally. And although only owners of the Samsung Galaxy S10, equipped with a full 5G communication module, can connect to this network, other devices from other manufacturers will soon appear on the market.

In Russia, operators are only proposing to launch 5G testing in Moscow and a number of other regions . Unfortunately, the Defense Ministry is not yet ready to transmit frequencies to the cellular operators in the main operating range of 3.4-3.8 GHz.

In the USA, 5G is launched in test mode, while the new type of communication will work only in a few districts of large cities . The launch was carried out by the AT & T service provider. Network bandwidth is up to 1 Gbps.

Hackers managed to force Tesla to go to the oncoming lane

Researchers from Tencent Keen Security Lab managed to crack the Tesla Model S 75 firmware. The hacking involved intercepting the steering wheel control, as a result of which the autopilot was able to be forced into the oncoming traffic lane. This is due to the attack on machine vision. Tesla uses neural networks in computer vision systems, so the reception worked and the electric car listened to the burglars. Now the patch has already appeared, the vulnerability is closed .

Flight to the Moon on Falcon Heavy

Since the administration of President Trump is insisting that NASA move more actively for an important goal - the flight to the moon, the agency has to accelerate . On Monday, NASA CEO Jim Brydenstein said that if SLS could not be prepared for the deadline (2024), then the Moon can be flown using the heavy Falcon rocket with the Interim Cryogenic Propulsion Stage system, built by the United Launch Alliance.

Cellular communication goes to domestic encryption

Despite the fact that a complete ban on foreign cryptography has not yet been introduced in RuNet, the corresponding regulatory framework has already been adopted for cellular communications. On December 1 of this year, two orders of the Ministry of Communications and Mass Communications (Nos. 275 and 319) come into force. From this date, procedures for authentication and identification of subscribers of 2G, 3G and 4G networks should be carried out using cryptography that meets the requirements of the Federal Security Service (FSB).

Russian OS "Elbrus" is shared

Domestic development, the Russian OS "Elbrus" is laid out by developers in general access . It is available on the website of the company that created this OS. Here you can download the distribution kit, which is compatible with both eponymous processors and x86 architecture. The third version of Elbrus is now available, the fourth version with the kernel 4.9 is on the way. It should appear in the list in the near future.

Began to fall in the price of RAM and SSD

Overproduction and lower demand triggered a decrease in prices for RAM and solid state drives . The negative price dynamics manifested themselves for the first time in five years - until now, prices have only increased. The cost of DRAM has already dropped to its lowest level in the last three years and the decline continues.
