The manufacturer of budget motherboards ASRock (a division of Asus) said that on its “motherboards” the boot time of Windows Vista can be reduced to only 3-4 seconds if you download the latest BIOS firmware. This speed is achieved by “fraudulent” manipulations with the core of the operating system (calls for S3 and S4 for “sleeping” modes are initiated by the motherboard, even if the user simply turns off the computer).
The process is controlled by the Instant Boot system in the BIOS on the motherboard. “Fast” mode with a download speed of three to four seconds is analogous to the usual “sleep” mode. In the "normal" mode, the Instant Boot process takes 20-22 seconds (similar to "deep sleep"), but here you can not be afraid of power loss in the power supply when the computer is supposedly "off".
You can watch a demo video under Habrakat (it looks like they made it right at a Chinese factory to collect mainboards, there is a whole room in the wires). According to the developers, Instant Boot works cleaner than normal recovery from sleep mode and allegedly does not leave “accumulated junk data” in memory. Probably, this is only a marketing application. In fact, ASRock motherboards simply do not allow to shut down the computer normally, which is presented as a kind of significant technical achievement.
