HearHere technology from
Pluggd Inc. will be used to index all audio content on the World Wide Web. But this is not its only application. Let's say nothing prevents you from embedding technology into MP3 players, as it is now embedded in the online player on Pluggd Inc. Thanks to the functions of speech recognition and semantic analysis of texts, such a player will allow to “run through” ad inserts at the beginning of podcasts or other alien fragments.
Search technology can be implemented on any website where the archive of sound files is stored. It will index them all and provide an archive search. The
HearHere public
beta runs on a single podcast on Pluggd Inc. The online player and search engine interface is made on the Flash platform and requires the installation of Flash Player 9.
The program performs full-text search through the contents of each podcast (of course, only English is supported). In a special window, you need to enter a keyword - and the player immediately shows where it is found in the podcast. The sought-for places are highlighted in red, and the words alongside are highlighted in yellow (this is the “thermo card” of relevance). If you hover the cursor over the "hot" area, then a pop-up hint appears indicating the surrounding words. The program recognizes synonyms.

Until the end of the year, the developers plan to release a version of the program that will index not only audio files, but also video files with voice commentary. After that, next year it will be possible to launch a search bot on the Internet and create a global full-text index of audio and video files of the World Wide Web.
It should be noted that Pluggd Inc. - far from the only company that is now trying to create a "Google" for podcasts. Some other firms are also actively working to integrate existing speech recognition technologies and full-text search modules. For example,
Podzinger created a similar search technology for podcast text, while
Blinkx specializes in full-text search for video files.
