Microsoft is testing a social network in flash

Having received instructions from management four years ago , engineers from Microsoft Research set to work, and now we can see the first results of their work. The online version of the Wallop social network has recently opened online.

Formally, Wallop is an independent company, but in fact the system is almost 100% created in the division of Microsoft Research and financed by the parent company. Now, the business is simply formed into a separate startup with venture financing. This is done for management efficiency. Small startups are now more tenacious.

Although beta testing has just begun, the site already has a business model that copies the Cyworld business model . The main source of income should be the sale of design elements to users, that is, various templates, icons and other graphic works. Such graphic elements will be priced from one to four dollars. The resulting profit should be enough to completely or partially reject advertising, which is oversaturated with other similar sites. Some graphic elements will be free.

The main feature of the Wallop is the original interface. Pages are completely made in flash and look very attractive. By using Flash technology, the site seems to be more interactive than the traditional HTML interface of competitors. Perhaps, this interface will be more liked by teenagers, who traditionally constitute the main audience of social networks of this kind.

Among the unique features on the site is the “Friends Radar”, which visually places all friends on the screen at different distances from the center, depending on the activity of communications. Immediately see who is in the near circle.

In order to become a Wallop user, you need to receive an invitation from an already registered user or from project managers.
