The Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Astrakhan Region decided to remove signs with QR codes from historic buildings, which for
half a year led to porn sites or offered acquaintances in Tinder. When clicked, the device owner automatically signed up for a subscription of 35 rubles per day.
“Plates with QR codes are all removed. It was a technical attack by hackers who changed the way to an unnecessary site. New QR codes are being developed, which will be re-installed on buildings, ”
explained the Acting. Minister of Culture and Tourism of the Astrakhan Region Galina Zoteeva.
QR codes on city sights were placed several years ago. It was assumed that when scanning the code with a mobile phone, historical information about the structure will be displayed. However, last year, activists began to contact the Astrakhan Ministry of Culture with complaints that instead of the information provided, they were given links to obscene sites. In November, the information
got into the media . Later it was reported that QR codes were blocked.

Now there is a production of new plates, said Zoteeva.
This is not the first time that hackers replace government information with links to pornographic content. For example, in 2016, the Internet portal of the government of the Krasnoyarsk Territory was hacked. In the section “Development of Civil Society” on the “Youth Policy” tab, visitors could see the content of obscene content.
