Today, 149 senators of the Federation Council voted to adopt a law on the publication of fake news. Only 3 people voted against, 4 senators abstained, as
reported by Kommersant. According to the new rules, for the publication of false information, individuals should be fined up to 100 thousand rubles, officials - up to 200 thousand rubles, and legal entities - up to 500 thousand rubles.
If a fined person repeatedly violates this law, or by his publication creates an obstacle to the operation of life support facilities, industrial facilities, banks and other institutions, the amount of the fine may reach 1 million rubles, or up to 1.5 million rubles in special cases.
Prior to the adoption of the law, the RF committees repeatedly raised the issue of publishing fake news. And only a member of the committee Lyudmila Narusova criticized the bill. According to her, the state itself creates and spreads fake news without bearing any responsibility for its actions. The Presidential Council on Human Rights was also against the adoption of the law.
The Federation Council also approved the law on punishment for insulting the state, society and state symbols. Guilty of violating this law must be punished with a fine of 1 to 5 thousand rubles or an administrative arrest for a period of 15 days.
