Toyota and JAXA plan to have a manned rover on the moon in 2029

“For engineers, the greatest joy is to participate in projects on the surface of the moon. I am really excited, ”said Shigeki Terashi, executive vice president of Toyota, at a symposium held by JAXA in Tokyo.
Rover and astronauts are supposed to be sent to the moon in an American rocket.





Toyota, in conjunction with the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency JAXA, presented a six-wheel rover project that will use fuel cells and a solar battery and allow two astronauts to live in it for a certain period of time without space suits, which will be the first such project in the world.



It is planned that the rover will have a length of 6 meters, a width of 5.2 meters and a height of 3.8 meters, and living space - 13 square meters.



According to the Bloomberg agency, the rover is designed for four expeditions, between which, under control from Earth, it will have to arrive at the place of the next landing of astronauts.



Toyota and JAXA have jointly studied the concept of a manned rover since May 2018.
