Microsoft has opened the Windows Calculator code



A few days ago, Microsoft decided to open the source code of the well-known program - "Calculator" from Windows. This application has been included in all Microsoft distributions since 1985, when Windows 1.0 was released.

Microsoft uses the MIT license for its software. This is the same type of license used by .Net Core, Visual Studio Code, and MS-DOS. According to representatives of the corporation, they are now opening the development process for the open-source community. Third-party developers can offer new features and collaborate with Microsoft engineers to add these features.

Over time, the Windows Calculator is improving. The program was born as an elementary assistant for performing arithmetic operations. Now it is a reliable scientific calculator that can be used by a wide range of users to solve very serious problems.

The program is written in C ++ and contains more than 35,000 lines of code. To compile a project, users need Windows 10 1803 (or newer) and the latest version of Visual Studio. All requirements can be found on GitHub.
