We invite you to the Droid Party - a meeting dedicated to the practical issues of developing Android applications and devices

On March 14, at the Moscow office of Yandex, the Yandex.Telephone team will share their work experience. Participants will tell you what difficulties they faced, what bumps were stuffed and what useful conclusions they made. The meeting will begin at 18:30, registration is open here .

Our optimization experience will interest those who want to control the consumption of resources without losing quality and release applications that are available even on weak devices. Alexander Starchenko will tell how the tasks that stood before the team after the release of Android Go were solved. Lightweight version of the operating system has increased requirements for pre-installed applications - the size and memory used. We needed to meet the narrow limits of these requirements. The team made a number of optimizations and decided to seriously change the architecture of the application. The meeting participants will find out what steps we have taken.

Consider the problems of fragmentation.

Those who suffered from fragmentation will try to help Andrei Makeev . He will share knowledge about the API of Android devices. Fragmentation is considered one of the main difficulties of Android development. Almost every manufacturer modifies Android to fit their needs, and vendor sales can be seriously different from the original AOSP. Let's try to figure out whether it is possible to benefit from the individual characteristics of various firmware and how to do it.

Tell about the introduction of voice assistant

Yevgeny Dolgiy will share his experience of integrating Yandex. The voice assistant Alice. The team was faced with the task of making it so that the assistant could be launched from any screen and from the sleep mode of the device. Participants understood what opportunities the framework provides for this. In parallel, we taught Alice to be friends with Google Assistant and to solve other problems, which will also be discussed at the meeting.

Let's discuss the modification of system settings

We are also waiting for developers who are ready to provide users with access to the settings of new system applications and hardware features. Nikolay Pakhomov will tell about work with system settings. Together with him we will consider different ways to create a new item of settings, their pros and cons. A small bonus will be information on how to make the added settings indexable for search.
