Microsoft is creating an analogue of the App Store

Speaking yesterday at the developer conference, Steve Ballmer announced that his company plans to create a software distribution scheme similar to the well-known App Store (also modeled on Facebook widgets). Through this site, independent developers will be able to sell their programs directly to users. According to Ballmer, Microsoft programmers are working on this project right now.

Not surprisingly, Microsoft is going to copy the idea of the App Store, given the huge success of this catalog of programs. Recently, Steve Jobs announced the statistics: since the creation of the App Store, more than 200 million downloads have been registered, and the total number of applications has exceeded 5,500 pieces.

True, this "Apple mimicry" ends. In other things, Microsoft will not copy a competitor, and although Ballmer called the integration of the WebKit engine into Internet Explorer an “interesting idea,” but the company is not going to put it into practice.
