RFID tags moved to the consumer market. However, it was possible to buy a USB scanner and a set with tags for a long time, and the Dutch Mediamatic even conducted regular RFID workshops that later turned into an annual RFID festival . However, start-ups and consumer products started literally this autumn.

Despite the primitiveness of the technology, people are actively generating ideas, hacking and implanting. However, use cases are reduced to opening locks, loading web pages, launching programs and the like useful, but not revolutionary everyday life, and attempts to do something “social” are limited to checking for coincidences of interests from the profile.

On Habré already wrote about Tikitag and recently another company Violet released its set of RFID tags. The kit, called Mirror , includes an RFID scanner and 25 RFID chips on adhesive tape. Chips can be attached to various items, and the scanner can be connected to a computer. When approaching the scanner, chip objects will cause some kind of computer action. For example, a chip that opens a web page with a weather forecast can be glued to the handle of a rain umbrella, a chip that calls a list of recipes for cooking can be stuck onto a griddle, and a chip that calls a program on a TV remote control can be placed.

Not cheap set, it should be noted. But its rather big price is obviously set deliberately for averting the eyes, because the most interesting thing is not in it at all ...

The smart guys from Violet decided to push the RFID market before it even had a chance to appear. Each chip from the Mirror set must be registered on the Violet website, since all functions will be performed through their server.

The logic is simple. Not today, tomorrow RFID-scanners will be massively embedded in mobile devices. Accordingly, things will become overgrown with RFID tags at the factory. The most innocuous umbrella will report that its new model has appeared on sale and congratulate with a discount, and the pan will begin to sniff out a super-new and cheap oil for frying potatoes.

But this is half the trouble. Mobile operators, of course, will not miss the chance to remove the cream from the new technology and get their gesheft from reading each chip. For this, you will need a separate server through which all RFID requests will pass. The manufacturers of umbrellas will be forced to pay for the use of the server (that's where the quick comrades from Violet are tagged) and for using the networks of the mobile operator.

The script is beneficial to all. Advertisers receive a database with information about the items used by the person, the special services are provided with an additional front of work, mobile operators also will not remain in the loser. The user will pay as always, to whom they will explain in great detail that all this is done solely for his own benefit. Intelligence agencies will tell about the terrorists, mobile operators - about Internet fraud, boobs and other dangers, from which the user will be securely protected by a single RFID center.
