YouTube closes comments on videos with young children

YouTube has announced the introduction of new rules that will automatically disable the comments section of videos with young children. This is done "for better protection of children and families."



YouTube has previously turned off comments from videos that attracted perverts, but now it will be done by default for all channels. The changes will take effect within a few months, but the authors of some channels complain that their comments have been forcibly turned off , although pedophiles have never appeared there. The presenters say that if you manually add comments back, then YouTube can even delete their channels.



The fact that pedophiles are interested in videos with children was reported long ago. As the investigation of 2017 showed, they not only leave obscene comments, but also use the comments section to communicate with other pedophiles, publishing links to other content of interest.

In February 2019, several large advertisers, including AT & T, Nestle and Hasbro, refused to advertise in videos with children.



Apparently, YouTube will automatically turn off comments only on videos with the youngest children, but not with teenagers. It is also reported that a small number of authors will be allowed to include comments on videos with children: these are well-known video bloggers who are trusted YouTube partners and specialize in family video shooting, or famous YouTube stars. At the same time, they are required to carefully moderate comments.



A company spokesman said that the relevant content will automatically detect YouTube algorithms. Millions of hours of video are uploaded daily to video hosting, so one cannot do without automatic classification by computer vision systems. YouTube has also developed a system to automatically detect abusive comments.



In addition to comments, YouTube closed several channels that inserted “shocking content” in the middle of children's video recordings.
